Range Rules:


If we observe an unsafe act, we will help you understand what you did and work with you to learn the correct safety procedures. If you repeat or commit another unsafe act, you may be asked to leave the range and meet with the executive board. If you appear to be impaired (such as under the influence of alcohol or drugs, including prescription medication), you will be evaluated by someone from the executive board and you may be asked to leave the range.

The safety of everyone is a primary goal of the Southern Michigan Sportsman’s Club. We want you to enjoy shooting and will work with anyone who wants the same. Act responsibly at all times. Foul language, horseplay or any other unsafe activity will not be tolerated.

The Board has deemed it necessary to PROHIBIT the use of RELOADED ammo in the Indoor Range...Factory Ammo ONLY!

Indoor Range Rules:


1. All shooters must sign in on the log book on the table by the front door. If 8 people are shooting, each member is restricted to 30 minutes of range time.

2. Eye and hearing protection must be on before entering the range and worn at all times while inside.

3. All firearms must be cased while going to or from the range. Never handle uncased firearms behind the firing line.

4. Always keep firearms pointed downrange and in a safe direction. Never turn around in the booth while holding a firearm. Never point towards yourself, another person, the ceiling or shooting booth walls. Never for any reason leave your booth with an uncased firearm.

5. Shooting hours are from 8am until 10pm.

6. Any member using the range must display their membership ID card at all times.

7. All shooting will be on paper targets only, attached to cardboard supplied by the club and center the target on lower part of carboard below line indicated.

8. Actions must be kept open except when actually firing, keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot.

9. No magnum loads, no shotguns or any handgun shooting rifle cartridges, no hot loads, no incendiary or armor piercing, no tracer rounds, no hollow points except .22, no wad cutters, or semi wad cutters.

10. Calibers allowed are: 22 rifles or pistols, .25 autos, 30 super carry, .32, .380, 9mm, 38 special and super, .40, 10mm, 45 autos and any magazine are limited to 20 rounds.

11. Never cross the firing line for any reason. Do not attempt to retrieve anything that falls in front of the firing line.

12. No crossfire shooting or rapid firing permitted.

13. No fast-draw holster or “Hip Shooting” is permitted.

14. Shooting is allowed from the established firing line only.

15. No shooting privileges will be granted to anyone whose sobriety is in doubt.

16. No alcoholic beverages, and/or drugs are allowed in the clubhouse or grounds.

17. No smoking or vaping are allowed on the premises.

18. No pets are allowed on the premises.

19. Non-members and guests are not allowed the use of the indoor range - No Exceptions.

20. Good sportsmanship will prevail at all times; bad conduct will not be tolerated.

21. Young people must be 12 years old to shoot, and while not shooting each child has to be under the supervisions of a non-shooting adult.

22. Clean up the range behind the firing line after use and turn lights and ventilation off if you are the last person to leave.

23. A club official’s command is final and non-negotiable. Anyone who refuses to follow club official’s directions will be immediately escorted from the range.

24. Firearms must stay in the assigned lanes at all times, and only one firearm at the shooting bench at a time.

25. Anyone who is found to be intentionally shooting anything other that their designated target will be held responsible for the damage, escorted from the range, and not allowed back. If a member is found guilty of this, their membership will be considered for termination.

26. Upon the command to cease fire, stop all shooting immediately. Put down your firearm and back away from the firing line. Do not re-approach the firing line or pick up your firearm until the all-clear signal is given.

27. For any firearm or ammunition problem, such as a Squib or hang fire, keep the gun pointed downrange, do not set the gun down, remain in the booth, signal a cease fire, and correct the problem.

28. No food or drink or tobacco products are allowed in the range at any time.

29. Appropriate attire is required which includes closed-toed shoes, no low-cut tops or cut off shirts.

30. No private instruction for profit allowed at the club.

31. No action pistol type shooting is allowed.

32. The range will close at 5PM on the second Tuesday of each and every month for the monthly club meetings.

Keep this paper in the tactical bag, carry case, gun bags, etc.

Outdoor Range Rules:


1. ALL shooters (and guests) must sign the Log Book.

2. Membership cards must be visible at all times when at the range. Anyone using this range must show proof of membership when requested by any identified member of this club.

3. Shooting hours are from 9am until sunset.

4. Actions must be kept open except when actually firing.

5. NO shooting is permitted while anyone is down range on while on either the 100-yd, or 50-yd range respectively.

6. NO shooting on 50-yard range except from the 50-yd firing line

7. NO rapid fire is allowed.

8. NO crossfire shooting is allowed.

9. NO pistol shooting is allowed beyond the 50-yd. line.

10. NO fast draw or “hip” shooting is permitted.

11. NO shooting of any kind is permitted beyond 100-yd. firing line.

12. NO shotgun shooting is allowed, unless using slugs.

13. Use paper targets only. Backers for targets are in the shed located between 100-yd. firing line and clubhouse.

14. ALL targets must be attached to cardboard and hung in the target frames, NOT hung or fastened to frames or rails.

15. NO shooting privileges will be allowed to anyone whose sobriety is in doubt.

16. NO alcoholic beverages, and/or drugs are allowed in the clubhouse or grounds.

17. NO smoking, or vaping is allowed on the premises.

18. NO PETS allowed on the premises.

19. Non-members are not allowed the use of the range, unless a guest of a responsible member. And, then only once.

20. When no authorized program is scheduled, this range will be used on a first-come, first-served basis. Rifle and pistol shooting may be executed at the same time with mutual agreement on target changing periods.

21. Good sportsmanship will prevail at all times; bad conduct will not be tolerated.

22. Young people at the range are to be under the supervision of a NON-shooting adult.

23. Violation of any of these rules will jeopardize the membership of the violator.

24. Exceptions to these rules can only be granted by the board of directors.
